Community and Dedication

We ended our 2016-2017 season with two wonderful company performances at the Vittum Theatre in Chicago this past weekend. Our Triple Threat Company’s final Cabaret show and our high school company’s Encore Showcase both served as a culmination of this year’s work. The dancer’s dedication and passion shone through in each of their performances. We are so proud of our dancers and the hard work they have put in all year! Our Triple Threat Company members have spent the year rehearsing multiple musical numbers, working with top industry professionals on monologues for both theatre and on-camera classes, training one-on-one with a vocal instructor, and performing throughout the Chcicagoland area. They also were given a private audition with an agent from Stewart Talent Agency. We are happy to have offered these unique performance opportunities to our dancers. This past Sunday’s performance featured these hard-working students in their final performance of their vocal work, monologues, and dances. The Encore Showcase featured our high school dancers and multiple group, solo, duet, and trio dances. This year’s Encore training had a concentration on versatility and adaptability. DMA instructors and guest choreographers challenged our dancers by teaching a variety of contemporary styles and setting unique pieces on the group. While some choreographers concentrate on a specific movement style or technique, others focus on telling a concrete story through movement. This distinct choreography contrast gives our dancers a taste of how the professional dance world is and how quickly professionals must adapt to unfamiliar styles of dance. Working alongside guest choreographers and working professionals in the industry allows for a dancer’s body and mind to experience a new style, pushing our dancers to be more artistic and purposeful with their movement. Our Encore dancers share a common love for dance and each other, creating a beautiful bond that brings them all together to focus and work hard on their dances. The greatest part of having such a positive group of highschoolers at the studio is seeing the strong, meaningful relationships they form with their peers and younger fellow dancers. The bond formed in the companies is evident at performances. Whether in an entertaining musical theatre number by the Triple Threat Company or in a contemporary piece in the Encore Piece, their strong bond of friendship is always apparent to audience members. We are so proud to have celebrated their last performance of the 2016-2017 school year with them.
